NAXIS CO., LTD., based in Kyoto, Japan, has been a top provider of high quality specialty textile products for over a century. The company, under the name Donsuya-Isuke, emerged from an artisan group renowned for weaving obi, the sash that serves as a belt for kimono. After Japan had ended its self-imposed international isolation (sakoku), Japanese manufacturers sought new opportunities for commerce with Western markets. Donsuya-Isuke successfully leveraged their expertise in weaving with the narrow loom used for obi, and branched out into weaving materials used for Western-style clothes, such as ribbons and labels. In 1897, the company was established as Nakamura Shoten.
As the 20th century progressed, the company name changed to Nakamura Woven Label Co., Ltd, to reflect their focus on this product. They continued to develop many innovative goods and services to address new markets. Nakamura Woven Label also developed new technologies for operations and distribution procedures that increased productivity and protected client companies. As the successful business expanded, new operations opened in other parts of Japan, and eventually, internationally. Soon, bases were established in Hong Kong, Thailand and mainland China, to serve the growing textile and apparel industries in each location. Along the way, the company has been recognized with numerous industry awards and accolades for their continued excellence.
Now, over 100 years since its inception, NAXIS still approaches their craft with the pride and exactness of a traditional Kyoto artisan. It is precisely this attention to quality and customer service that has made NAXIS a global market leader. |
